Boarding Policies

Our boarding policies are carefully designed to protect the health and well-being of your pet and our other guests, as well as for your peace of mind.

  • We require that dogs be current with DHPP and Parvo within 1 year, Rabies within 1-3 years, and Bordetella within 6 months, as per Suffolk County law.

  • We recommend that dogs have a current negative heartworm and fecal test within 1 year.

  • We require cats be current with FVRCP within 1 year and Rabies within 1-3 years, as per Suffolk County law. We also require proof of a negative FeLV test.

  • We recommend that cats be vaccinated for Feline Leukemia and have a negative fecal test within 1 year.

Proof of current vaccinations are required by the time of boarding. In order to provide better protection for your pet, all vaccinations should be given at least 7 days prior to boarding.

Any pet that requires veterinary attention will receive it at our discretion and at the owners' expense, this includes parasites, both internal and external.

A full day's boarding will be assessed on the day your pet arrives. Check-out time is noon, after which a daily charge will be incurred.

If your pet receives grooming services on the day of departure, you will not be charged for the last day of boarding, regardless of check-out time.

The Medical Importance of Grooming Your Pet

Pet grooming is about more than making Fluffy look fabulous.

The important thing is to keep her clean and healthy.

Grooming is an important part of preventive medical care, and regular grooming at our Holbrook Pet Spa will help prevent serious medical problems — not to mention make your pet look, smell, and feel better.

Regular grooming can help detect infections and growths before they become a problem.

Coat

Dogs require regular bathing to keep their skin and coats healthy, and brushing between baths will get rid of tangles and mats.

Brush your cat weekly to decrease the number of hairballs it ingests. Longhaired and senior cats should be brushed more often to prevent mats from forming.

Mats on dogs and cats are painful and can cause skin infections, and matted hair around the hindquarters is especially painful and dangerous. It's important to ensure the area is clean and never infected.

With dogs, scooting is a sign that the area may need attention.

Nails

In general, your dog's nails are too long if you can hear his tap-dancing on your floor.

For both dogs and cats, long nails can get caught in the carpet or cause them to slip.

On some pets, nails curve around and grow into the feet, causing pain and infection. Regular trimming is an excellent alternative to declawing – and the reupholstering of your couch.

Ears

Ear cleaning is important in preventing ear mites and infections, and pets with hairy ears need extra attention.

Healthy ears smell and look clean, and anything different should be examined right away.

Eyes

Keep the hair around your pet's eyes clipped short enough so that it can see properly. Long hair that dangles into the eyes can cause irritation or damage the cornea.

Also, the matter that collects in the corners of eyes should be cleared away regularly (for some pets, daily) so that the debris doesn't create sores.
